- Fabrication is “Making up important information including data and experiments when proposing, conducting, or reporting research.”
- Falsification is “changing or misrepresenting important information including data and experiments, for example, oneʼs qualifications or performance.”
- Plagiarism is “claiming that the work or ideas of others are oneʼs own.”
Specific Misconduct (MEXT, 2014)
(1) Fabrication: Making up nonexistent data, research results, etc.
(2) Falsification: Changing research materials, devices, and processes to render data and the results of research into something untrue.
(3) Plagiarism: Appropriation of the ideas, analytical methods, data, research results, articles, or terminology of other research without the approval or appropriate attribution of the researcher.
